This is why these major Nairobi roads will be closed today; Thika Super highway is among them

The Nairobi residents should brace themselves for closure of roads come this weekend. The Nairobi Traffic department released a list of roads that will be closed from Saturday night until Sunday to pave way for the 2016 Standard Chartered Marathon.

It was announced that major highways including Mombasa and Lang’ata Roads would be shut down though alternative roads would be provided.
The annual event set to be held at Nyayo stadium will affect roads around the Grounds from Saturday 11pm to Sunday 1pm. 

For those intending to use Mombasa Road towards South C, the road will be closed and they will be diverted at the Bunyala Roundabout through Bunyala Road, Dunga Workshop Road and Lusaka Road, to rejoin at the Nyayo Stadium Roundabout.

Motorists entering the city from the same road will be forced to use Lusaka Road Roundabout through Lang’ata Road, Madaraka Roundabout in South C and Aerodrome Road.

University Way will also be affected as those heading towards Westlands and Kileleshwa will be required to use Globe Cinema Roundabout, Ojijo and Kipande Roads.

Also motorists heading to the City Centre from have been advised to use Lang’ata road, Valley, State House Road, Arboretum, Riverside Drive then Kipande and Globe Roundabout.

According to the memo sent to media houses, Thika SuperHighway will also be affected and those driving towards Muthaiga, Thika and Kiambu will have to use Globe Roundabout then to Murang’a Road and Limuru Roads.
